About Us
GPS was founded in 1892 with the object of "advancing the art and craft of amateur photography". More than a century later we have not lost sight of this objective. We are a friendly and forward-thinking club which embraces digital methods while respecting traditional skills and techniques. We're proud to have an eclectic membership where we gain knowledge and experience not only from our scheduled events and lectures, but also through our interaction with one another. All are welcome and we encourage members to improve their skills, style and artistic capabilities to allow everyone to do their best. |
Meet other photographers
We are an active society with over 90 members, ranging from beginners to advanced, all with a shared love of photography.
You will find us to be a friendly group (both young and old) who will welcome you into the club and encourage you to enjoy and improve your photography.

Regular meetings
We run a full programme throughout the year. Our main meetings normally run on Monday evenings from September to May with additional visits and photo shoots during the summer months. Our Monday meetings are a mixture of talks from leading photography specialists, photo competitions (both print and digital) and club evenings.
To observe social distancing, we do not intend to meet directly together throughout the remainder of 2020, but will continue to meet for talks and competitions over Zoom. See the "What's On" page for more details.

Competitions and Exhibitions
We run a series of internal photography competitions throughout the season. These are divided between print and digital competitions with club, intermediate and advanced classes. We also take part in inter-club competitions where we have gained a good reputation for our photography.
We also run a bi-annual exhibition to show our photography to the wider public.
