On Saturday 30th June, 10 members of the digital group met at Wisley in order to visit and photograph the new glasshouse: Paul and Shirley Graber, Martin Halliday, David Jarman, Mark Denton, Barry Scowen, Ronnie MacDonald, Martin Haddon, David Plummer and Veronica Barrett.
The idea was the brainchild of David Jarman. It proved to be a wonderful venue, especially given the dreadful weather, and I believe that we all managed to find compositions to interest us. I know that Barry spent some time photographing creatures which were almost too small to see and a few other members tried to be helpful in pointing out those that could be seen! The selection of plants was magnificent, particularly the orchids, and the architecture of the glasshouse itself is very sophisticated with every window and light etc. computer-controlled.
We are all going to bring along one or two of our favourite shots to the next digital meeting on 4th September, so that we can see what each of us saw through our camera lenses.

Guildford Photographic Society co-represented Surrey at the PAGB Inter-Federation Print Championships in Connah's Quay on Saturday 28th October.
This is the first time that Guildford have made it to this competition, and experience that we gained was invalulable. Mark, Alan, Veronica, Martin, Barry and David J all undertook the four hour drive to be at Connah's Key to support our entry.
The prints that were entered for the first round were:
The prints that were entered for the second round were:
The competition was won by Smethwick Photographic Society for the 6th year running.
Next year the Inter-Federation Print Championship will be held at Connah's Quay again, on Saturday 27th October. Lets hope that Guildford get a chance to make use of this the experience gained from this year's competition to improve our position in the competition next year.

We have a number of fine speakers booked for the forthcoming season, most of whom fall into one of two main themes - an invasion from Kent and those who have recently judged our work.
Several recent judges have agreed to show their work, giving you a chance to see for yourself whether they can back up their criticism of your images with high quality work of their own - and I think you will find in all cases that they can - those booked are:
Aside from Rex, we have three of Kent's finest coming to the Society for the first time. In December John Abrook FRPS will show "In the eye of the beholder", a number of print panels of graffiti and the like, whilst in March, Patricia Jones FRPS, EFIAP, MPAGB, APAGB will show prints from two trips to America. She will be followed in May by Roger Force FRPS, DPAGB, APAGB who will give a print presentation entitled "From A to D to F" - from analogue to digital to Fellowship. Roger was one of the first photographers to be awarded a Fellowship for an entirely digitally produced panel. All three speakers come highly recommended by Paul Foley - and those of you who have seen Paul's work will know that he has high standards by which to assess other photographers.
We also have the return of one or two stalwarts - of local interest we shall have a return visit by Nigel Choat who will show slides of natural history of south-east England, and Peter Morss APRS, DPAGB will be showing some more of his prints - Peter is one of the dinosaurs who still wet prints, so he shares an empathy with our Programme Secretary, which probably explains the invite.
